Mexico is once more open for travellers after covid. But what else do you need to consider?
Where can I check entry requirements for travelling to Mexico?
The Government of Canada has advice on the entry requirements for Mexico. You will need a valid passport to travel to Mexico. You will also need an additional document and there are slight differences depending on whether you fly into Mexico or enter over land.
If you are flying into Mexico as a tourist (staying no longer than 180 days and not planning to work) you will need to have a valid Mexico Tourist Card (also known as an Official Entry Immigration Form or an FMM) to enter the country. These are available free. Everyone entering the Mexico, including children, need their own tourist card. You can apply up to 30 days ahead of your trip.
You can apply for a Mexico tourist card online and it will be emailed to you. Also expect a customs form which you will be given to complete on the plane.
If you are entering Mexico over land, you can apply for a multiple immigration form. It may need to be printed so immigration can stamp it.
Which covid test should I get when I go to Mexico?
There are no longer any requirements for proof of a negative covid test to enter Mexico. But for your own peace of mind, you may want to get tested for covid before your flight to Mexico. Our covid testing service is perfect for travellers. We have plenty of pre-travel covid test appointments. Do I need to get tested for covid when I come back to Canada from Mexico?

For peace of mind, you can get tested for covid at Canadian Travel Clinics on your return to Canada. We offer covid-19 RT PCR testing for travellers.
Should I wear a mask on my flight to Mexico?
Wearing of masks is not required while travelling to and from Mexico, but is recommended. More information about masks for travellers is available from the Government of Canada.
What vaccines do I need for a trip to Mexico?
Make a travel health appointment six to eight weeks before your trip to Mexico to find out what travel shots are recommended for your trip. Some countries require you to show a yellow fever certificate on arrival. To find out if you need a certificate of yellow fever vaccination for your trip, make a travel health appointment in good time and discuss your situation and requirements. There are some vaccines you may wish to have for your vacation in Mexico, such as hepatitis A, tetanus and typhoid. The travel health nurse or pharmacist can make recommendations about the right vaccines for your trip to Mexico.
For your protection and peace of mind, the Canadian government recommends that you complete a COVID-19 vaccine series along with any additional recommended doses in Canada, at least 14 days before travelling. Residents of Alberta can get free covid boosters from Canadian Travel Clinics. Just bring your Alberta Health card with you to your appointment at our Calgary and Edmonton clinics.
